Welcome
to the Something Good! CSA. We encourage you to connect with the
food grown right in your community, and John Givens Farms has
served the Santa Barbara area for 30 years.
Nothing
could be fresher or more delicious than local veggies and fruits
grown only a few miles from your doorstep. Please consider joining
us for a one-of-a-kind taste experience!
Our
coastal community's unique climate helps our farm maintain vibrant,
sustainable lands which support animals and insects and provide
open breathing space. We're also blessed with rich soil and gentle
topography, all of which contribute to our excellent growing year.
We are working hard in all seasons to provide you with vegetables,
and joining our CSA is the easiest, freshest, lowest cost, and
most environmentally friendly way to acquire them.
We
also have gift certificates if you'd like to
give the gift of veggies to someone in your life.
Our
CSA Subscriptions
As
a CSA member, you are purchasing a portion of the farm's produce.
Once a week we put together a box of fresh-picked vegetables:
you can choose either the regular or large box size. The regular
size is designed to supply 2-3 people with vegetables for the
week: it has portions of 10 different items and costs $25/week.
The large size is for a larger group of perhaps four people, and
contains 15 items and/or some larger portions at $35/week. This
can vary depending on how many vegetables you include in your
diet.
Because
you are purchasing a 'share' in the farm, we provide two payment
options: a six-week or a twelve-week subscription, both payable
in advance.

Your
weekly share is fresh picked and pre-boxed at the farm, and everyone
receives the same items in their box each week. Because farming
requires consistency in planting and harvesting, we do not allow
substitutions in individual boxes. Each week's delivery should
be a pleasant surprise, so try new recipes with your vegetables.
If you cook up something tasty, let us know and we'll put it on
our recipe page!

About
Givens Farm
John
Givens started John Givens Farm in the Goleta Valley under the
“Something Good” label in 1980 with 1 acre. Over the
years, John Givens Farm grew slowly to its present size of 180
acres in 12 locations stretching over 30 miles. Our goal is to
provide fresh, local, organic produce of excellent quality all
year long. Our seasons for many items are extended due to the
diverse microclimates on our land. We use innovative methods for
cultivating produce, such as nurturing tomatoes in cold frames
in the winter, which dramatically extends their availability into
the cooler months. We plant many varieties of produce every week
of the year. This gives us timely arrivals of seasonal products
with extended growth terms.
We at John Givens Farm believe that diversity of crops creates
a more sustainable farming ecosystem, while greater biological
variety provides a healthier diet for its consumers. Our fertilizer
program includes composting, cover cropping, and major and minor
mineral additions that provide mineral and microbiological enhancement
to the crops while providing you with tastier produce and better
shelf life. We harvest daily to provide the freshest produce for
your table. We attend neighborhood and short-distance famers markets
to distribute locally and to interact directly with the consumer.
We ship all around the country and we deliver to regional stores.
What we would like to do, however, is distribute more produce
closer to home, saving fuel costs from transportation and from
refrigeration on several levels. This would naturally leave a
smaller carbon footprint on the planet.
